"Oui" Fund FAQ
2025 Project: La Cantine
Why wasn’t the kitchen included when the building was constructed in 2015?
The kitchen was part of the original vision for the new campus, but due to budget constraints at the time, it was not included in the final build. Now, with a growing need and renewed opportunity, we’re ready to bring this essential space to life and create the vibrant culinary experience our French school community deserves.
Is this a real project or just an idea?
This is a real, active initiative that is already in the planning phase. We are working with experienced architects and vendors. The architectural timeline includes design, permitting, and construction. An RFP process has taken place for food service providers.
Why is a kitchen a priority this year?
This is a continuation of our initiatives to improve the student experience. Past initiatives have funded a préau, turf sports field, art center, furniture for common spaces and more. An expanded kitchen supports our students’ well-being and aligns with our school's values. Food is part of our pedagogy, our culture, and our community experience.
Will this eliminate any current food service?
No. It will expand current offerings. No existing services are being eliminated—in fact, we are adding functionality and improving food quality.
Who will use this space?
The kitchen will serve all interested students and staff.
Is this a fully functional kitchen?
Yes. This project is intended to install a fully functional school kitchen that will support meal preparation on-site, improving food quality and service efficiency.
What’s the timeline?
Our goal is to break ground as soon as the fundraising goal is met, with service starting as early as the 2025–26 school year, pending permitting and construction timelines.
Who benefits from this kitchen?
- All Students: Healthy age-appropriate meals and snacks.
- High School: Fourth-floor kiosk with grab-and-go and hot lunch options.
- Staff: Cafeteria and kiosk options.
Will high school students get full meal service?
The project includes an on-campus kiosk, allowing for grab-and-go and hot lunch options tailored to teen preferences. They can also grab a full lunch from the cafeteria!
Will the new kitchen impact how much food service costs?
One of our top goals is affordability. We are engaging with vendors who prioritize balanced, affordable meals with fresh, local ingredients.
What happens if we don’t raise the full $300,000?
If we fall short of our goal, we’ll move forward with the most critical infrastructure first and phase in additional components as funding allows. While this approach would limit the full impact and delay benefits for the entire community, we remain committed to realizing the complete vision—and are optimistic we can achieve it together.
How was the $300,000 goal determined?
It is based on early architectural and equipment estimates and will be finalized upon receipt of vendor bids and schematic designs. It covers kitchen equipment and construction costs.
