Portraits of Our Community: Pascal Léon

Five photos of primary school director, Pascal Léon, over the years

As part of our ongoing series, "Oui" are the Lycée: Portraits of our Community, we are honored to spotlight Pascal Léon, our beloved Primary School Director at LFC for the past nine years. Originally from Brittany, France, Pascal joined the school in 2016 and has since devoted his career to our youngest students, their families, and their teachers. In October 2022, Pascal was named Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes académiques by the French Ministry of Education in October 2022—a prestigious recognition of his many years of service and steadfast commitment to education, both as a teacher and a school leader.

As he prepares to retire at the end of this school year, we celebrate his dedication to our school and its community with deep and heartfelt gratitude. We cannot thank him enough for all he has brought to the Lycée over the years.

Tell us about yourself.

I was born in Brittany and grew up in Normandy. I joined the Education Nationale in 1984, just after graduating high school. First I was a teacher in Calvados, then in Algeria. I taught at the Lycée International de Los Angeles (LILA) for ten years, where I had my first experience as a campus principal, before returning to France in 2001. I worked in Seine-Saint-Denis and became the school principal in 2006. My position as the Primary School Director at LFC will be my last in the Education Nationale.

Why was the LFC a good fit for you?

I didn't know Chicago when I accepted this position, but I knew from discussions with Mr. Veteau and the primary coordinators at the time that I shared the school's values and vision of teaching.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise our readers.

Students know that I love to sing and dance, but few know that I love logic games and quizzes, and that I've been a contestant on game shows – and even won one!
