Portraits of Our Community: Christopher Rowney, Class of 2022

Grid collage of six photos of LFC alumni, Christopher Rowney, throughout the years

This week, as part of our series, "Oui" are the Lycée: Portraits of our Community*, we are delighted to learn more about Christopher Rowney, an LFC alumni from the class of 2022. An Irish-American, Christopher joined the Lycée in 2007 as a pre-kindergartener. He is currently a sophomore at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where he majors in economics and minors in business administration.

Tell us about yourself.

I was born in London, England and moved to Chicago when I was a year old. I have one brother, Packy, in 8th-grade at the LFC. I attended the Lycée for 15 years (Petite - Terminale) and took the OIB track, with a specialization in math and economics. I speak English and French fluently, and chose to learn German as my third language. I played on the varsity soccer and basketball teams at the LFC, and rowed for Chicago Rowing Foundation throughout high school. I was also recruited to row Division 1 on the heavyweight rowing team at Georgetown.

Why was the LFC a good fit for you?

There are two things that come to mind when I think about why the LFC was a good fit for me. The first is the students and teachers that I met while I was there. Throughout my time at the LFC, I met great teachers and friends from all over the world. The LFC's international and diverse community is one of a kind, and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to be a part of it. The second is the educational value that the LFC provided me. The educational and cultural opportunities that I was exposed to were like no other. Being at college has opened my eyes to how fortunate I was to go to school at the LFC. I think that the rigor and standards the school holds its students to made my transition into college more seamless.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise our readers.

I come from a totally anglophone home. I was one of three students in my class to pass the BAC as a non-francophone student.
