An Exploration in Soundscapes

Grade 6 and 9 music students explored global soundscapes with Nicolas Tixier and Marc Higgin, members of the CRESSON research team at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Grenoble. The duo presented their work, initially featured at the 2023 Venice Biennale of Architecture, and immersed students in the project through 40 miniature speakers placed throughout the library. Each speaker played distinct recordings submitted by people across France, Europe and North America, including diverse ambient sounds and descriptions of past and present events from each place. The exercise allowed students to explore the world through sound.
