An Impactful Valentine's Day of Service in Elementary School

Five photos from the Valentine's Day of Service

Inspired by their assembly on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his commitment to helping others, students in elementary school launched their annual winter donation drive in support of two local organizations, Nourishing Hope and Nuevos Vecinos, who assist those in need and welcome new migrants to Chicago. This year's theme was hygiene insecurity, as these nonprofits expressed a great need for toiletry products. Grades 1-3 collected general toiletry items for Nourishing Hope, while Grades 4-5 gathered items and assembled 86 toiletry kits for Nuevos Vecino, complete with handmade Valentine's Day cards to accompany them. Both groups sang songs—with cycle 2 focused on harmony, and cycle 3 on the Civil Rights-era—following their work. An amazing moment of cooperation and community!
