For any child, from toddlers to teenagers, school is more than an education. It’s a journey. From sports and arts to extensive after school programming, part of our mission is to enable students to develop their interests and talents both inside and outside the classroom, inspiring the whole child.

Creating a community of families.

The Parent Association works to strengthen the ties between LFC families through networking, events, committees and beyond. It also serves as a voice of the parent community to school leadership.

PA seeks to foster a community of families and create connections between French, American and international cultures, adding to the vitality and reputation of the Lycée in Chicago. It also assists in various activities in the school's daily life, keeping discussion open and providing a major source of support.

The PA is entirely directed by volunteers and represents every family in the school. Parents are invited to take an active role in the association by suggesting new projects, helping to organize school events or getting involved in school activities. It is a great way to get involved in the school, but also to create new connections within the community.

PA Events and Initiatives

Community Events

Throughout the year, the PA organizes many events in the hopes of uniting the community and developing a constructive dynamic of collaboration and sharing. These include a new family welcome luncheon each fall, the Lycée French Market in November, wine tastings throughout the year and the family-fun Kermesse on the last day of school. All of these events need many, many parent volunteers to make a reality!

DEI Committee

Members of the PA sit on the LFC's DEI Committee. Its goal is to provide support and resources that will provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students, families, faculty, administrators and staff so that they feel wholly safe and wholly welcome. We strive to bring programs, activities and discussions to the school community which will expose our students to a variety of perspectives, challenge their assumptions, and help them to explore alternative approaches and solutions to real-world problems. We believe in the importance of developing the school's curriculum, community, and culture in ways that will connect our students' personal backgrounds and experiences in order to foster diversity, social justice, and inclusivity, with the goal to ultimately prepare our students for an interconnected global community.

New Family Welcoming Committee

Working in concert with the Admissions Department, this initiative helps new families integrate into the school, the community and the Chicago way of life in a fun and lasting way. The program assigns a new family to an existing family that volunteers to sponsor them. The families contact the newcomers to introduce themselves and invite them to some of the school's first events of the year. The program also follows up with the family over the first school year to ensure they are adjusting well.

FAPEE Member

The Parent Association at the Lycée Français de Chicago is a member of the Federation of Parent Associations of schools in the French Education abroad network (FAPEE). FAPEE is the only federation dealing realistically with the specific issues of French education abroad. It was created in 1980 by elected representatives and parents of all nationalities, and unites parent associations in French schools around the world (EGD, approved, recognized).
