Volunteer Opportunities

"Oui" are involved.

The Lycée Français de Chicago is known for its giving families, strong sense of community and dedicated volunteers.

Engaging with the LFC beyond the classroom makes a family's LFC journey extra special. Parent and guardian involvement is a school-wide responsibility, allowing us to offer more innovative programs and activities for students, and it is an excellent opportunity for parents to get to know one another.

Want to help?

Volunteering is essential for the life of the school and an excellent way to make friends and build community.

Volunteer Opportunities

Each year, hundreds of parents volunteer their time as well as generously donate almost $1.5 million through our many events and giving opportunities. In fact, the school relies on every family to get involved in order to keep the LFC community vibrant and strong, enhancing the LFC experience for all. Interested in volunteering? Sign up! Questions? Email volunteer@lyceechicago.org.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees serves as the steward of the school's educational mission and financial health, according to its established bylaws. Its responsibility is to adopt a clear statement of the school's mission, vision and strategic goals. The at-large parent trustees establish policies, guided by advice from Board-appointed committees, to ensure the LFC's long-term growth and success. If you are interested in learning more, please email board@lyceechicago.org.

Classroom Life

Opportunities include family involvement in classroom activities, from being a room parent and chaperoning student trips to hosting potluck luncheons or dinners for your child's class. Contact your child's teacher to volunteer.

Generations' Day

This popular half-day celebration is for grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, caregivers, friends and neighbors who play a special role in the lives of LFC students. They learn about the educational programs and extracurricular activities while visiting students in their classrooms and enjoying breakfast in the gym. Volunteers needed: 15

Golf Outing

The golf outing is a family event suitable for all levels. Participants play a nine-hole tournament with our student golfers, followed by a festive luncheon and awards ceremony. Volunteers needed: 10.

International Student Host Family Program

Each year, the LFC welcomes international high school students who are in need of a host family for their length of stay, which varies from a year to a trimester to shorter periods (i.e. school breaks). The family must be able to provide a room for the student as well as a quiet space to study. This fantastic program brings more international exposure into a family's home without going abroad! Volunteers needed: 15.

La Kermesse

A tradition in France, a "kermesse" is an end of school year celebration taking place each June. Organized by the Parent Association, the entire LFC community comes together to enjoy fun activities and games for all ages, music, food, drinks and more. Volunteers needed: 80.

LFC Fund

As is traditional with independent schools, the LFC Fund is the Lycée's most important fundraising effort of the year. No matter what families are able to give, 100% participation is essential, as tuition alone does not cover the level of education our community has come to expect from the LFC. In fact, it helps keep tuition lower than it would otherwise need to be, as it receives no significant support from either the US or French governments. Volunteers needed: 70.

Lycée French Market

For one weekend each November, LFC's campus transforms into a bustling French market and bistro. Many local and French artisans participate in this public event, selling home décor, apparel, jewelry, accessories, gourmet food and more. Organized by the Parent Association, it welcomes more than 2,000 visitors over the course of the weekend. Volunteers needed: 100.

La Nuit de la Lecture

Each winter, La Nuit de la Lecture is an opportunity to celebrate literature in all its expressions, through student exhibitions, workshops, shows, storytelling, author meetings, a book fair and more. In addition to enjoying the event, families can help set up this evening full of fun activities for children and adults that places books, words and the pleasure of reading on center stage. Volunteers needed: 60

Open House

Every November, the LFC hosts an Open House, welcoming interested families to learn about our school. It is our most important recruiting event of the year and is an opportunity for students, parents, teachers and staff to share first-hand information about our school and community with prospective families. Volunteers needed: 50.

“Oui” Run 5K & Kids Races

The “Oui” Run 5K is a family-friendly race through our beautiful Ravenswood/Lincoln Square neighborhood, which takes places every September. The 5K run (USATF Certified Course IL16064NM), kids races and post-event breakfast are open to all. À vos marques, prêts, partez! Volunteers needed: 150.

Parent Association

The Parent Association seeks to strengthen the ties between parents, the administration and teachers, and contributes to the vitality and reputation of the LFC in Chicago. The PA is entirely directed by volunteers and represents every family in the school. All parents are invited to take an active role in the PA, helping with events like the Lycée French Market, La Kermesse and wine tastings; organizing initiatives such as the new family mentorship programs; and volunteering at the LFC during the school day.

La Soirée

Taking place each spring, La Soirée is our premier fundraising event. The 500+ attendees enjoy a fabulous evening of dinner, dancing and entertainment along with silent and live auctions. A paddle raise supports a special project chosen annually in concert with students, parents, faculty and leadership. Volunteers needed: 30.
