Middle School | Grades 6 to 8

In the Middle School, students continue their immersion in the French Language and they follow the French curriculum (French, Math, Science, History-Geography, Physical Education, Arts, Foreign Languages). In addition, the core program includes English language arts, American history and US Math. Students must be fluent in French to attend Middle School at the LFC.

At the LFC, each grade builds on the one before in a spiraled approach, revisited topics each year with increasing challenge. In Middle School:

• Lycée students begin an in-depth learning exploration through courses taught by a team of teachers, each specialized in one or more subjects.
• Arts offerings include dance, music, theater and visual arts.
• Students are challenged to demonstrate knowledge and encouraged to explore new ideas, solve problems, and analyze information.
• Time management skills and self-sufficient study habits are instilled throughout these grades to prepare students for greater autonomy and more challenging courses in high school.
• Every student is provided with a Chromebook to facilitate classroom activities and create a stronger continuum between classroom work and homework. 

At the LFC, we recognize that students have diverse learning profiles and teachers will support and accommodate students’ individual needs. While we provide accommodations and differentiated instruction in the classroom, we do not modify the grade level expectations for students.

While offering students the opportunity to reflect on themselves, develop empathy for others, and make responsible decisions, social emotional skills are crucial to support academic growth and success. For this reason, social emotional learning is integrated in the middle school curriculum and students have regular SEL classes (where they explore themes such as anti-bullying, healthy communications and positive relationships, social justice, etc). In addition, teachers participate in SEL training and incorporate the approach in their classrooms.
