Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

The LFC admits students into its programs without distinction on the basis of race, religion, sex, national origin, or gender identity in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal laws. The school actively recruits students of diverse backgrounds and profiles, no matter their particularities. 

The LFC's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager is part of the senior administrative team. The mission of the DEI Manager is to coordinate DEI initiatives in collaboration with the DEI Committee in order to best:

• Identify students and staff (faculty and administration) training needs 
• Implement training opportunities (ex: consultant, speakers, seminars, workshops...)
• Assess school/community climate when it comes to DEI matters 
• Define standards and policies that should be consistently implemented 
• Identify incidents involving elements of diversity, exclusion, inequity and/or discrimination and contribute to determine the appropriate response 
• Collect data regarding incidents related to diversity, equity and inclusion
• Organize events to celebrate diversity within the community  

The LFC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee is composed of teachers, administrators, parents and board members. Together, they collaborate to ensure that everyone strives in an inclusive and nurturing environment. Accordingly, the mission of the committee is to facilitate and reinforce diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives within the school.

Chaired by the DEI Manager, its main objective is to give the tools to the members of our community to understand the notion of global citizenship and strengthen the feeling of inclusion and belonging which are essential to all learning institutions. 

LFC's student initiatives are led by middle and high school students to help foster inclusion and a positive and open school climate in secondary school.  Every year, our students are encouraged to develop new initiatives and projects to pursue and support our DEI work. 

In the past years, through different formats, our students have helped organized Black History Month and LGBTQ movie nights and participation in LFC's walking delegation in Chicago's Pride Parade. They also actively participate in the school's annual Thankful for Our Diversity celebration.

Community service generates wonderful opportunities for students to strengthen their empathy skills while being exposed to other realities and horizons. Empathy play an essential part in our work towards more inclusion and diversity in our school. Accordingly, throughout the year, students are given opportunities to volunteer for different causes and organizations. Community service opportunities have included: Cradles to Crayons, Habitat for Humanity, Ravenswood Community Services, Little Brothers Friends of Elderly and Keen Chicago.

The LFC has important programs to support socio-economic diversity at the school, including:

• LFC Financial Aid - need based 
• Daniel Murphy Scholarship  - need based
