Parent Association
The Parent Association of the Lycée Français (PA) seeks to create a community of families, forge ties between the French and American cultures, and contributes to the Lycée's vitality and reputation. In addition to organizing activities for the Lycée families, the PA aims to give parents the opportunity to play an active role in increasing the school's standing and visibility within the Chicago community. It also contributes to the quality of student life by raising funds to support and improve the school's daily activities.
The PA is a volunteer-run organization. Officers are elected at the end of each academic year, and Lycée parents are actively encouraged to participate in one of the many committees created to meet the objectives outlined above. Not only is volunteering an excellent way to become involved in school life, but it also allows parents to forge relationships throughout the school.
The PA's committees include:
-
Welcome Committee – This committee helps new families adjust to the school and to life in Chicago. Parents can help with this transition by befriending new families, creating a welcome kit or by helping American families understand the educational system of the Lycée.
-
School Directory Committee – This committee compiles and updates all the essential information which is published in the annual school directory. Joining this committee is a great way to become familiar with the school!
-
Lunchroom Committee – Committee members will coordinate the work of volunteer parents in the lunchroom, supervise the students and provide light clean-up help during the lunchtime period.
-
Holiday Card Committee – Another important fundraising event is our annual Holiday Card Sale. The Holiday Card committee helps select the students' artwork to be featured on our holiday cards and coordinates sales of the cards to the Lycée families and the community at large.
-
Fundraising Campaign Committee - Funds raised by this parent-run committee are of great importance to the school and have been used in previous years to pay for enhancements to the gymnasium and the playground, to establish a sports program, and to pay for a new sports director.
-
High School-Middle School Committee - This committee promotes communication between parents of Middle School and High School students and aims to improve the transition between the two levels. It also organizes social and cultural events with other schools to facilitate students' integration into the Chicago community.
-
Room Parent Committee – This committee finds two room parents for each class, informs them of their duties and provides them with any necessary assistance. Room parents play an integral role in the classroom, organizing social events and class field trips, assisting the teachers with class communication, and helping the administration to prepare a telephone tree to be used in case of emergency.
-
Landscape Committee – With or without a green thumb, this committee welcomes assistance in enchancing the exterior grounds of the school.
-
Social Committee – This group organizes monthly coffee hours, the Welcome lunch in September, school picnics and wine tastings. In conjunction with the Social Committee, a group of parents has organized a series of evening activities and lectures.
-
Uniform Committee – This committee collects used uniforms generously provided by Lycée families and sells them at low prices during the monthly coffee hours and at other events. The proceeds from these sales are another source of income for the PA.

To cover the costs of the programs listed above, each Lycée family is asked to pay an annual fee of $45. Those families who have paid their annual dues receive a copy of the school directory. The fees can be paid by check or cash and can be left in the PA box in the school office.
