University Preparation

There are many post-secondary options for Lycée students to consider in America, Canada, France and elsewhere. We employ a College Advisor for North American Colleges and a French University Counselor to familiarize students and their families with both systems and provide the guidance they need in selecting a school and applying for admission.

We begin working with students early to allow them time to examine the many choices available and help them keep their options open for as long as possible. This means carefully selecting curriculum–– math/science, social science and economics, or literature–– and electives for the Baccalaureate, as well as preparing and taking U.S. College Admission standardized tests (SAT, ACT, AP, TOEFL), and applying to U.S. Colleges. We recommend this even if students intend to return to France after their studies.

It is important to be aware from the start that the French and American systems employ different criteria in evaluating applications. Consideration at top U.S. colleges is extremely competitive, and because Lycée students follow the French curriculum, their performance in all subjects throughout their high school careers (9th to 12th grade) is important. In the French system, on the other hand, a student's choice of curriculum and performance on the Baccalaureate will determine where he or she can apply. Students who select the French system will find that their U.S. applications and exam records will give them an additional edge when applying to French establishments and "classes préparatoires."
