Evaluations & Exams
Lycée students are tested on an ongoing basis. These evaluations enable us to measure our students' level and progress and help us identify areas in which additional support or remediation may be necessary. Parents of pre-schoolers receive semiannual progress reports; all other parents receive reports three times a year.
In addition the Lycée, as an official French school, must:
Lycée students also take the following American standardized tests:
To receive the Brevet, students take an exam, organized by the French examination center in Washington. Their scores on this test, combined with their ongoing performance in the 9th grades, determine whether they receive the diploma.
To receive the Baccalaureate, students take a two-part test. (Classroom performance is not considered in this case.) The first portion of the test, which covers the French Language Arts (and the Sciences for students in literary and economics tracks), is taken at the end of 11th grade. The remaining subjects are covered by a second exam at the end of 12th grade. Students with passing scores are awarded the French Baccalaureate, whose requirements are more stringent than a North American high school diploma. Bilingual speakers may choose to pursue International Option of the French Baccalaureate (OIB). The OIB offers a French/American bilingual/bicultural program where students take intensive English Literature and History/Geography courses and test for the Baccalaureate in English for these subjects. The questions are selected and graded by the American College Board in cooperation with the French Ministry of Education. |
